Friends' groups raise money and advocate for the library. In fiscal year 2005 - 2006, they held hundreds of book sales, as well as community events, such as Poway's Harry Potter Birthday Bash, Rancho Santa Fe's Rancho Days Festival, and Fallbrook's Art of the Book Festival.
Library Friends groups are active in almost every branch community. The umbrella organization Library Friends of San Diego County (LFSDC) coordinates activities that benefit all groups.
