Banned Books Week first began in 1982 following an increase in books being challenged in school, libraries, and bookstores.
The annual celebration usually takes place the last week of September and aims to bring together book communities and all readers nationally to share support of the freedom to read.
Banned Books Week emphasizes access, choice, and intellectual freedom!
This week, celebrate your freedom to read with our list of 18 books that were banned or restricted over the years! Find out more about banned books: https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/banned
