On July 10, 2022, the Vista branch celebrated the veterans in its community with Strength Through Art – a display of art made by veterans themselves.
The exhibit drew eight local artists and featured 15 pieces, ranging from photography and ceramics to painting and woodwork.
Local artist and veteran Amanda Eck was enthused to learn about the art show.
“I saw a post on the Vet Art page on Facebook,” Eck said. “I had been wanting to have more experience getting my art out there. I really appreciated the kindness and helpfulness of the staff working the show.”
Event attendants, many of whom had never heard veterans share their stories before, also loved the art show.
Viviana Estrada, an opening reception attendee, was impressed with how “well-planned” and “well-organized” the event was.
Strength Through Art was born in partnership with VETAT.ORG – a Vista-based non-profit organization serving veterans, active-duty service members, and their families – and Veterans Writing Group of San Diego.
San Diego County Library is committed to serving its veterans! We now offer seven Vet Connect stations through which veterans have instant video access to a service representative from the Office of Military & Veterans Affairs. Find out more about Vet Connect.
